DUNCAN YO YO

The years have ticked by but the Yo-Yo has continued to be one of the leading toys in America.

Duncan Yo-Yo has been around since 1929, and has continued to create this exciting toy to this day. There are now other company’s that produce the Yo-Yo, but none are as famous or as influential as Duncan Yo-Yo. In fact, until 1965 when the Company went out of business, the term “yo-yo” was an original trademark of the Duncan Company.

It is interesting to note that the yo-yo is considered to be the second oldest toy in the history of the world; the first known toy has always been dolls. People of all ages, from all over the world throughout history have enjoyed playing with yo-yo’s – Including Napoleon.

The yo-yo that Americans are familiar with, was originally created in the Philippines, and was brought over to America in the early 1900’s. The first man to coin the term “yo-yo” in America was the man who brought it over from the Philippines, Pedro Flores. The term “yo-yo” is a Philippine expression meaning “come-come”.

As the years progressed and the yo-yo became one of the most popular toys to be sold in America, Duncan offered different yo-yo competitions; and in 1962 yo-yo was the number one past time. Today over half a million yo-yo’s have been sold. They are many different colors and types of yo-yo’s, as well as a number of tricks that you can learn to do.
