WOODY WOODPECKER
There are certain characteristics given to a cartoon character that make it popular, unique and unforgettable. For Woody Woodpecker this would be his zany laugh.
Woody Woodpecker first debuted on the screen as a supporting character to an Andy Panda show in 1940. Intrigued by his character, Walter Lantz took over Woody and created his own hit films in 1941. Woody was turned into a comic in 1952 which was published regularly until 1984.
The TV series took off in 1957 and by 1972 Woody had approximately 200 shows. With all of its history, Woody Woodpecker has defined itself as a classic among cartoons. Small and blue with wild red hair, Woody is an obnoxious “screwball” of a character who steals the laughter from his audience with his hilarious high jinks. He is fast talking and quick thinking and drives Ms. Meany over the edge with his laughter.
The other characters add to the show with their own wild temperaments. From Winnie, Knothead, Splinter, Wally Walrus, Dapper Denver Dooley, Ms. Meany, Buzz Buzzard, Smedley, and the more popular Chilly Willy, you can be sure to be entertained the whole time. Most of the population has captured a look of this hit cartoon as its reruns are constantly aired. New episodes have also been created so we can follow Woody on more wild adventures. Woody Woodpecker is a classic any age can appreciate. It has style originality and a history dating back to the time when Cartoons made a name for them-selves.
