Saved By The Bell is based on a group of friends: Zack, Kelly, Slater, Screech, Lisa, and Jessie. They are the young high-school students of Bayside High. The tone of the show was a simple one of growing up and experiencing the issues and emotions that arise in everyday life. Zack Morris, the main character was played by the once teen heart-throb, Mark-Paul Gosselaar. Blonde and blue-eyed, Zack had a taste for trouble. He was usually in detention or seeking the attention of some lovely girl. Through most of the seasons, Zack was after the love of his life – Kelly. Each character in the group of friends represented the personalities found typically in school. There was the nerd, the “cool” guy, the feminist, the cheerleader, the sophisticated one and the jock.

Saved By The Bell debuted in August 1989. The original series had four seasons, allowing the viewers to follow the students from grades nine to twelve. There were two spin-off series after the original as well as a few movies. None of the spin-offs were as popular as the original.

Saved By The Bell proved to be a popular show, because of the age group it represented. It dealt with issues that teens could relate to, and it was funny. The reruns are aired quite frequently and beloved by fans everywhere.
