PHILADELPHIA FLYERS
The team of orange and black – the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Flyers were among the first to be apart of the first hockey expansion. They were franchised in 1967. This had already been a plan set in motion before the team was even formed. Prior to their creation, there was an ice rink already being built for their home games and practices. It was called the Spectrum and is located in the heart of the fabulous “City of Brotherly Love”.
It was the job of the first coach and general manager to choose twenty players for their freshly made team. This would be during their attendance at the NHL draft. They managed to select a fine team and a good group of players. They had their first game in October of 1967. There first games were played against other first year teams who were in similar standings as the Flyers. They managed to win and lose games equally.
The Flyers weren’t successful with their fans until they began to show their worth. Finally when they played the Montreal Canadians, one of the best teams in the league at the time, they managed to beat them thanks to Leon Rochefort who made his very first hat trick. This wowed the many spectators and the Flyers began their climb to success.
Today the Flyers are a driving force in the NHL and are one of the more popular and well known teams.
