NIRVANA
Nirvana is recognized to be one of the greatest or most influential bands during the Late 80s/Early 90s, also known as the Grunge era, which they fuelled almost individually.
Nirvana started in a redneck, backwater town of Wishkah in Seattle, formed by lead vocalist / guitar, Kurt Cobain, recruiting in an old classmate by the name of Krist Novelisic, bass/ vocals. Nirvana had many drummers, but the most famous was Dave Grohl, now leader of the Foo Fighters.
Their debut album, Bleach, came as a shock. Surpassing Michael Jackson's "Dangerous" and even hitting the #1 spotlight, Nirvana had started their career with a startling pace. Bleach was recorded and released in 1989 and such singles were "Lovebuzz" and "About A Girl". Two years later, the famous trio recorded "Nevermind", their most known album and considered one of the greatest Rock Albums recorded. Nevermind was something short of a miracle. Out of the twelve songs, ten became singles and they are still being played today! "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was their most famous, one furious passionned roar masterfully written that conveys the hate and angst that builds inside an adolescent. The country's youth fell in live with Nirvana and Kurt Cobain's ingenious writing.
What ended Nirvana's magical years were Kurt Cobain's mysterious and even frightening death. Police report that he committed suicide, shooting himself through the head after writing a suicide note to his daughter, Frances, and his wife, Courtney.
Nirvana was one of the most famous bands in the history of the 20th century, most definitely in the early 90s. Their reign was absolute and they inspired a generation. They will always remain in our hearts.
