NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD
There have been a number of zombie movies, but not one will be remembered as well as George Romero’s Night of The Living Dead. This 1968 horror flick, starring Duane Jones, Judith O’Dea, and Karl Harman, is just one of the many films that have come to be known as classic horror.
The movie focuses on seven people who are trapped in a Pennsylvania farmhouse due to the persistent attacks of flesh eating zombies! Together they must fight to keep their lives and their sanity, as the zombies vainly attempt to break into the house. This proves to become easier said then done. The survivors hear the news reports of the zombies plaguing the eastern Untied States. Slowly the suspense unfolds as they begin to lose the battle, and their lives.
Night of The Living Dead is truly a unique horror film. It began as a low-budget flick that didn’t have a prayer, and became one of the most influential horror movies of all time. It wasn’t just the obscene amount of gore that was uncanny for it’s time, but the film is one of the first to portray a black man as the protagonist.
Night of The Living Dead was created in a time when sensitive race issues were still alive in the United States. The ending of the movie was a shocking statement about these issues. This concluded that Romero’s choices for his film were both bold and daring. Now you too can be bold and daring by joining in the glory of this horror classic by sporting your very own Night of the Living Dead T-Shirt!
