INSOMNIAC
It's funny - as The US government gravitates increasingly towards faith-based decision making and pushes morality into the realm of government regulation, television seems conversely to be degrading into a wonderful world of sin, swearing, comedic alcoholism, near-nudity and bad jokes at other people's expenses, otherwise known as Comedy Central's Insomniac with Dave Attell. This late 30-something comedian has what might be considered a pretty sweet gig: get paid to appear night after night in shitty comedy clubs, then get paid to be followed around by a Comedy Central camera crew getting drunk and exploring the nation's greatest cities with a paid-for buzz on.
Sadly, there is obviously much more going on behind the camera's proverbial back than Comedy Central is allowed to show the general television audience, though recent DVD’s that have been released offer those deleted scenes to the audience.
The show's various locations - bars, clubs, venues and other after-hours businesses - all become fodder for Dave's high-brow gutter wit, self-effacing and backhanded humor, wry senses of timing and delivery, and ability to sniff out a good time. It's comedic salvation, no holds barred, for all us sinners who have trouble sleeping at night.
