Hockey has been around from many years and is one of the most popular sports in the world. Not only fun to play, it is a fantastic and entertaining sport to watch. Jam packed with action, hockey is the fast paced contact sport that has fans cheering everywhere.
Before the 1980’s it was argued that hockey was originally the result from Indian Lacrosse and English field hockey. It spread across Canada due to British soldiers who played the sport in the mid 19th century. However, over the past couple of decades historians have observed that hockey may have very well come from the Micmac Indians. They were a group of natives from Nova Scotia who were around in the early eighteen hundreds. This game was evidently associated with an Irish game called hurling. Hurling involved the use of a stick and a wooden block shaped like a square. Historians believe that this was this game that was widely spread through out Canada. Over the years new rules were incorporated and used to form the game that is played today.
Hockey turned into a professional sport and it wasn’t long before national leagues were formed and many teams were franchised and created. Hockey has become such a great source of entertainment that its seasons run even longer than they did before.
Hockey is a sport that relies on vast amounts of team work and has produced many hockey legends like Wayne Gretzky.
