G.I. JOE
He was the first boy’s action figure in the world! All boys but also girls knew and loved Joe. His story starts in 1964 but by 1967, he is already talking! This in combination with his 21 moving parts guaranteed his place in toy history.
The 1970s brought many new features and characters to the G.I. Joe team. First, Joe gets four allies that make up the G.I. Joe Adventure Team. Then who can forget the “Kung Fu Hand Grip” and the introduction of Atomic Man and Eagle Eye. By 1977, Joe was “Super Joe” including laser lights and a 1-2 punch to help defend the universe.
In 1982, Joe was re-introduced in a new size of 3 3/4 inches. This decade marks the first real people to be added to Joe’s team; professional wrestler, Sgt. Slaughter and William “The Refrigerator” Perry. G.I. Joe Extreme is introduced as the new line and eventually includes G.I. Jane, the first female character to team up with Joe.
By the year 2000, the excitement just keeps on coming. Talking G.I. Joe returns and he has 7 phrases. In 2001, a special series is introduced to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Hasbro has never made a mistake with G.I. Joe. He will always appeal to us all. Keep in mind, his 40th anniversary was in 2004.
