The heat is on! Firefighting is no ordinary job. Fire is serious business that requires more than just aiming a hose in the right direction. It takes courage and bravery to face the flames that threaten to engulf and extinguish life.
Do you have what it takes to be a firefighter? One must be physically and mentally fit. They must be ready to react to a call at any time. Firefighting is a demanding and difficult job. It takes the skill of knowing the right equipment to use in certain situations. There are many scenarios in which firefighters have special terminologies to describe the danger that they may encounter. One of these special terms is known as a Backdraft. This is also known as a smoke explosion. It occurs when a fire is trapped inside an enclosed structure. The fire reduces most of the oxygen but the gases may remain overly heated inside. A sudden presentation of oxygen such as a door opening can cause the gases to erupt with explosive force. A Backdraft is usually evident by little to no flame visible, or yellowing smoke.
Sadly, many great firefighters lose their lives during their heroic deeds. No one will forget how many firefighters suffered and died during the horrific events due to the attack on September 11th 2001. It is their memories that shine brighter than any flame in the hearts of their loved ones and fellow workers.
