DAVEY AND GOLIATH
Davey and his lovable sidekick Goliath are back!
Nearly everyone remembers Davey and Goliath. The clay animation show began back in 1960. The president of the United Lutheran Church in America wanted to produce some wholesome television programs for children. He hired a script writer and Art Clokey, creator of Gumby, to put the show together.
Davey was an ordinary young kid. He had a good imagination, liked sports but not so much school. The big theme was temptation, something of course all kids have to conquer one way or another. Decisions are at ever corner and the audience follows through Davey’s options as he discusses them with Goliath.
Goliath captured many hearts with his cute, affable ways. He could talk but only to Davey. He acted as Davey’s conscience better than many characters modeled after him did in the future. His famous and most memorable saying was, “I don’t know, Davey”. That usually meant this would be a good time for Davey to listen.
Initially, the church commissioned thirty 15 minute episodes between 1960 and 1962 and distributed them FREE to almost 200 U.S. markets. In 1965, six half hour specials were produced and between 1969 and1971, 35 more shows were added to the collection. They have been translated into 7 languages.
Today, Davey and Goliath have turned up in soft drink adds! The proceeds from this venture will be used to create more NEW shows.
