THE BRAK SHOW
This cartoon is hardly a cartoon. It is really a sitcom with cartoon characters from an old comic book. Clearly not your average show. This show is getting a huge following of loyal fans and because it was new in 2000, it is likely to be around for quite a while yet.
Remember Space Ghost? First, there was the original cartoon, a more traditional concept with Space Ghost in the starring role and assorted villains to disrupt things. Then in 1994, Space Ghost Coast to Coast appeared as a real twist to the usual. In this show, Space Ghost is hosting a talk show where he interviews real people/ celebrities with ludicrous questions about their secret identity and related superhero inquiries.
The next twist to the original concept takes Brak, the absent-minded space pirate back home to the typical domestic home life in the form of a sitcom. The storyline is about the neighborhood, about the Brak family and all the various permutations of that idea. The grown ups have children and have to deal with the associated problems. They live on a quiet street just like you and I. Brak is joined by his friend Zorak, Brak*s Mom and Dad and Thunderclese to travel through domesticity together.
The show was created by Jim Fortier and Andy Merrill. There is no doubt about it, the show is obscure and offbeat but in a wonderful way. It is refreshingly brilliant and extremely funny in an irreverent style. There are lots of catchy, unexpected musical numbers to add to the fun. You will stand out as the individual that you are when you show the world your Brak Show t-shirt.
