Basketball has been around since the late 19th century. The inventor of the game was Canadian born, Dr. James Naismith. He was the first to introduce it as a sport and created the famous thirteen rules of basketball. Naismith moved from Canada to Springfield, Massachusetts. It was on that American soil that basketball made a name for itself in 1891.

There was a wide spread movement of the YMCA dating back as early as 1893. It was through the YMCA that Naismith was able to show the world his basketball vision. Basketball finally had its world-wide debut in the 1936 Olympics that took place in Berlin. Since then, basketball has stormed the world with great success.
