THE ANDY GRIFFTH SHOW
When one thinks on the Andy Griffth show, one can’t help but smile while they whistle the opening tune.
The Andy Griffth show was a spin-off from the Danny Thomas Show and aired for 8 seasons from 1960-68. The show focused on the daily happenings of a small town in North Carolina called Mayberry. Andy Griffth plays the town Sheriff, Andy Taylor, a widower who spends his time between raising his young son Opie (Ron Howard) and keeping the peace and justice in the town. Andy is not overly sophisticated but he has an open-mind and common sense that sets him apart from the town’s folk. Andy does what he believes to be best for everyone. Andy and Opie live with his Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier), and together the three of them have a chemistry that is pure family and funny. Another addition to the humour is Barney Fife (Don Knotts), Andy’s incompetent deputy sheriff, but also good friend and cousin.
The Andy Griffth Show was popular because of its sense of realism. Mayberry was based on Andy’s real hometown. The scenes were very distinct and mellow. They took place on the Front Porch of the house, a sidewalk, or at the barber shop; and the actors who portrayed the townspeople were essential to the ultimate success of the show.
The Andy Griffth Show is one of the most beloved TV series from the past, and we are fortunate to be able to purchase the complete episodes or watch its reruns. As an added bonus, T-Shirts are now available for you to wear, giving your whistle a whole new tune!
